Overview
Sacred Spain

~ 10 Days, 9 Nights, 8 Paths to the Heart ~
Join us for a transformative journey through Sacred Spain – a spiritual odyssey that weaves together ancient wisdom, natural beauty, and heart-opening practices across three magical destinations. This carefully crafted 10-day retreat invites you to explore the eight sacred paths to the heart, guided by spiritual teachers Michael Shankara and Katrina Gustafson of Karma Yoga Center.
Each morning begins with energizing yoga and meditation practices that set the foundation for our daily spiritual explorations. Together, we’ll walk the eight paths to the heart: Walking with the Ancestors through Valencia‘s ancient streets and sacred sites; discovering The Garden of Life in Borboto’s traditional farms and orchards; embracing the Mystical Mountains in Alicante Sagra’s majestic landscapes; practicing Gratitude amidst El Botanico’s tropical paradise; participating in transformative Ceremonies that connect us to Spain’s rich spiritual heritage; experiencing the healing power of The Playa along pristine Mediterranean shores; journeying into the Cave of the Heart through deep meditation and self-discovery; and celebrating with Bhakti beach chant festivals under starlit skies.
Your journey spans three magical locations – from Valencia’s blend of ancient and modern wonders to the mountain sanctuary of El Botanico Ecolodge, and finally to the paradise island of Mallorca. A highlight of our island experience includes a breathtaking catamaran tour to the crystal-clear waters of Formentor Beach, where towering cliffs meet turquoise seas in one of Spain’s most spectacular settings.
Throughout these ten days, you’ll be nourished by farm-to-table meals, inspired by daily yoga and spiritual practices, and embraced by a supportive community of fellow seekers. Our accommodations range from the luxurious Westin Valencia to the sustainable El Botanico Ecolodge, and the seaside elegance of Hotel Hoposa Uyal in Mallorca. Each setting has been chosen to deepen your connection to Spain’s sacred landscapes and your own heart’s journey.
This retreat is an invitation to transform, to connect, and to discover the profound beauty of Spain’s sacred spaces while being held in a supportive community of like-minded souls. Whether you’re sharing stories over a traditional paella dinner, practicing yoga in ancient gardens, or chanting by the Mediterranean Sea, each moment is designed to open your heart and awaken your spirit.
Join us for this once-in-a-lifetime journey through Sacred Spain, where every path leads to deeper connection, joy, and spiritual awakening.

Valencia & Borboto
3 Days ~ 2 Nights
About Valencia, Spain
Valencia enchants visitors with its seamless blend of ancient history and modern innovation, where Gothic spires and ultramodern architecture create a mesmerizing skyline. In this sun-drenched Mediterranean gem, you’ll wander through the winding streets of the Old Town (Ciutat Vella), where every corner reveals stories dating back to Roman times and even older. The city’s crown jewel, the stunning City of Arts and Sciences, showcases futuristic designs alongside the verdant ribbon of Turia Gardens – a converted riverbed that winds through the heart of Valencia like a green oasis.
Known as the birthplace of paella, Valencia’s culinary scene bursts with flavor in its bustling Central Market and intimate tapas bars, where locals share stories over glasses of horchata, the city’s beloved tiger nut drink. From the medieval splendor of La Lonja silk exchange to the vibrant street art of the El Carmen neighborhood, Valencia offers an intoxicating mix of cultural treasures that capture the essence of Spain’s Mediterranean spirit. Just minutes from the city center, the golden shores of La Malvarrosa and Las Arenas beaches stretch along the sparkling Mediterranean coastline, offering a perfect blend of urban sophistication and seaside serenity.

About Borbotó, Spain
Nestled just 15 minutes from Valencia’s vibrant center, Borbotó offers a captivating glimpse into authentic Spanish agrarian life that has flourished for centuries. This charming village is surrounded by the historic Huerta de Valencia, a patchwork of fertile orchards and farms where traditional agricultural practices still thrive. The landscape is intricately woven with ancient acequias – Moorish irrigation channels that have sustainably distributed water through these productive lands since medieval times. These remarkable waterways, along with the traditional farmhouses (alquerías) that dot the landscape, tell the story of a rich agricultural heritage that dates back to the 8th century.
Here, among orange groves and vegetable gardens, local farmers maintain time-honored cultivation methods, creating a living museum of Mediterranean agricultural tradition. The peaceful rhythm of rural life in Borbotó provides a striking contrast to the nearby city, offering visitors a genuine experience of Valencia’s agrarian soul and cultural legacy. It is in these fertile fields where the true tradition of paella was born, with local families still gathering on Sundays to prepare this iconic dish using vegetables freshly harvested from their own huertos (vegetable gardens) and cooking over open orange wood fires, just as their ancestors have done for generations. During our stay, we’ll have the special privilege of joining our friends John, Mirin, and their son Jack at their multi-generational traditional farm Decubre L’Horta, where they’ll welcome us for an authentic paella celebration and dinner, sharing both their home and this treasured cultural tradition.

Alciente Sagra ~ Magical Mountains
4 Days ~ 3 Nights
About Alicante Sagra
Nestled in the captivating region of Alicante, Sagra reveals itself as a hidden gem in the Marina Alta, where centuries-old traditions remain beautifully preserved in daily life. This charming village, surrounded by the majestic mountains of the Costa Blanca, provides a serene backdrop for El Botanico retreat center, where ancient stone walls whisper stories of the region’s rich past. The landscape is a testament to the area’s agricultural heritage, with terraced hillsides adorned with olive groves, orange orchards, and vineyards that produce the local Moscatel wine. Just 20 minutes away, the stunning Mediterranean beaches of Denia and Javea offer crystal-clear waters and hidden coves, perfectly complementing the mountain experience.
The village itself maintains its authentic Spanish character, with narrow streets leading to the historic church plaza where locals gather for evening paseos. Nature enthusiasts will discover a paradise of hiking trails, including the historic Camí dels Correu, which winds through the mountains offering breathtaking views of both the Mediterranean Sea and the valley below. The area is dotted with prehistoric caves, Moorish castles, and ancient hermitages, creating a fascinating tapestry of human history amidst the natural splendor. This setting, where mountain meets sea, and history embraces nature, provides the perfect backdrop for deep restoration and spiritual connection at El Botanico.

Stay: El Botanico Ecolodge & Retreat Center
El Botanico Ecolodge is a mesmerizing sanctuary set along the Mediterranean coast between Valencia and Alicante, where 20,000 square meters of luxuriant tropical gardens create an enchanting backdrop for profound relaxation and renewal. This sustainable paradise features five vibrantly colored houses, each uniquely designed with distinctive personality and artistic flair, drawing inspiration from the warm hues of Mexico, Chile, and Costa Rica. The property’s breathtaking grounds showcase a living tapestry of biodiversity, where 50-year-old pines and palms stand sentinel alongside a thriving bamboo grove and an abundant tropical orchard boasting 64 different species of trees. Through thoughtful permaculture practices, the garden yields a bountiful harvest of exotic fruits – from sweet lychees and mangos to fresh avocados and passion fruit – which our in-house chef transforms into nourishing farm-to-table meals served three times daily.
Retreat participants will start each day with invigorating yoga sessions, followed by opportunities to explore the surrounding countryside and nearby beaches through guided walking tours. The centerpiece garden swimming pool offers a refreshing respite, while hidden nooks throughout the grounds provide peaceful spaces for meditation and reflection. Here, amidst the gentle symphony of water features and the diverse ecosystem of cacti, succulents, and unique herbaceous plants, guests find themselves immersed in a true ecological sanctuary that nurtures both body and soul, far removed from the demands of everyday life.
