In astrology, every planet and luminary— the Sun and the Moon— has a corresponding sign that they call “home.” Just like you and I have a place that we call home and reside in. This is where we are most comfortable in our environment, and our homes reflect our energy and values. The same is true in astrology. The Sun is home in Leo, the Moon is home in Cancer, and Saturn is home in Capricorn. So, Sun and Leo energy relate and correspond to each other. Same with the Moon and Cancer, and Saturn and Capricorn. When another planet enters Leo, they are in the Sun’s home and under the energetic influence and rules of the Sun. As an example, the planet Mercury is in the sign of Leo this month, where it will go retrograde. So Mercury’s retrograde will be exploring themes of Leo and the Sun.

Throughout this entire month cycle, there is a significant amount of Leo and Solar energy in the field. Leo and the Sun are the Lion, the Heart, Courage, Authenticity, Creativity, and Love. The counter to this energy is the Moon and Cancer, which is emotions, feelings, the Inner Child, and the Inner Parent. Overwhelmed Cancer energy can be crying and wallowing in one’s emotions. This cycle starts with the Capricorn Full Moon on July 10 and Saturn Retrograde from July 12 – Nov 27. Saturn and Capricorn are about finding our inner authority, intuition, Dharma and fulfilling or purpose in life. To stand in power and fulfill our dharma, we need our lion’s heart and Leo energy.

Mercury goes retrograde in Leo from July 17-Aug 11. As Mercury back-tracks through the Sun’s home, this is a chance to go in towards our Inner Sun in the Heart— called the Hridyam in Sanskrit. The Hridyam is our true Self and eternal Heart. Mercury is the Mind. So this is a process to return the Mind to the Heart.

The Sun goes into Leo on July 22 This same day the Moon enters Cancer. Both are now in their home signs. This is a powerful and magical energy that happens once a year. The Sacred Masculine and Sacred Feminine are in their balanced and harmonic influence.

Venus in Gemini squares Mars in Virgo on July 23. Venus and Mars are the more personal versions of the Moon and Sun. This square could reflect a conflict or misperception. Mercury rules both Gemini and Virgo, and likely this tension is not even worth engaging it. Stay to the Lion Heart and love.

The Leo New Moon is July 24, along with the Sun trine Saturn and Neptune. This is supportive and helpful to stand in our loving hearts.

Sun opposes Pluto on July 25. Your personal self sits down to a meal with your Soul and inner elder. Consider this a check in to align with your purpose, dharma, and unconditional loving Hridyam Heart.

Chiron goes retrograde on July 30, and Venus moves into Cancer that same day. This is a time of nurturing, healing and brining the masculine and feminine together in harmony. Let yourself feel but bring the feeling to the every loving heart of your inner Sun.

Lammas is the midpoint between Summer and Fall on Aug 2. It is a beautiful celebration of the first harvest, the pulse of the grains, and gathering in community. Get together, break-bread, and healing your relations.

Lion’s Gate is celebrated on Aug 8 and is a field of energy up until Aug 22. This is when the Sun and the star Regulus— the heart of the lion and the constellation Leo— come into conjunction. This is a magical, mystical time to connect to our inner light and cosmic powers of the stars. This same day Mars trines Uranus. This harmonic energy is about revelation, realization and awakening.
