What is a Gong Bath Anyway?

Namaste Friends!

September is upon us and we have many events planned for this month which officially changes seasons from summer to fall.  One event not to miss is the Gong Bath on Friday, September 17th.   We purposely planned to host the gong bath just before the fall equinox because it serves the body good to cleanse the system of old, stale energy and align ourselves on a cellular level with newly charged energy.  How does a Gong Bath work?  First you need someone who is trained to make the gongs resonate at just the right frequency.  We are in luck.  Gary Fishman, a long time Wash Park resident just so happens to be that incredibly talented musician. Second, you need at least one finely tuned planetary gong.  Again, we are in luck.  Gary happens to have not one, but two of these amazing gongs.  Vibrationally, the gong is tuned to match the frequency of a specific planet’s vibration.  Gary’s biggest gong (4ft in diameter) is tuned to Saturn.  Wow!  He didn’t mess around!  Saturn is known for her powerful pull on our moods.  We should do our best to be in sync with Her Majesty!  It stands to reason that if all matter is made of vibrating atoms, including our own bodies, then when a giant gong is struck and it sends out a powerful vibrational pattern, it wafts through our cells and we adopt the vibrational pattern, moving out the old vibration.  Then we are truly resonating with the Universe!  So, when you come to a gong bath, you lie down on your mat (pillow and blanket is nice too) with the crown of your head facing the gongs, then you close your eyes and let the vibrations wash over you.  It is quite an experience.  Gary has a second gong, also tuned to a planet, many singing bowls, two didgeridoos, and a native american flute that he plays to accompany his big gong.  On the other side of an hour and half, you emerge fully renewed and re-energized, literally.  For some, it is very relaxing.  For others, it can be very healing.  It is definitely effective on several levels for everyone.  Be sure to reserve you spot now as these tend to sell out quickly.  Especially when they are held on auspicious days of the calendar.

Also, our teacher training begins on the same weekend.  We begin our classes starting on Saturday.  We have a couple spots left for this training.  It is going to be a great session!  We are going up to the Yoga Journal Conference in Estes Park this year, which is an added bonus.

Our new schedule will begin the week of Sept. 20th.  We are adding a few new classes and moving a few others around, so be sure to check out the new changes.  We are really excited about our 6 week Mommy and Me series that is starting on Sept. 21st with our guest teacher Sara Guenther.  Be sure to sign up for that if you have a little person in your family.

On the evening of September 21st Swami Maheshananda is coming to do a talk on Relieving Stress the Yogic Way.  Be sure to catch this great opportunity to study with a revered master of yoga.

Fall is beckoning.  It calls us in toward the hearth.  Where we kindle our flame and nourish our soul.  The cooler days allow for us to go inward, not just to our homes, but to our hearts.  It allows us time to get reacquainted with soulful selves.  What a gift. In the words of Nithyananda, “The heart is the most sacred of places, go there and roam”.

Happy September!

Much love Katrina
