The Path of Discipline

Namaste friends!

One of the most important parts of our practice is discipline and consistency.  This is also one of the hardest parts of our practice… especially come the middle of summer, changes in schedules, shifting of teachers, weeks away from your mat.  Temptations are seemingly everywhere that work to draw you away from routine and those things that help keep you connected and centered.  It’s in this time we find ourselves falling back on old patterns, disregarding the growth we’ve made, and functioning from memories and past experiences.

So how do we keep ourselves fresh and alive?  By practicing!  By choosing to come to our mats in order to open our hearts, shift our perspectives, and embrace inevitable change.  By keeping ourselves disciplined, allowing time on our mats to tether us to that which holds us steady.  And when we find ourselves in too much routine, bored and uninterested in remaining steady, we work to open ourselves to a new class, a new teacher, or even a new space in which to practice.

Remember!  It is natural to sway into and away from balance.  It’s normal to be pulled to get out of routine.  It is part of our path, though, as modern yogis and yoginis to keep ourselves disciplined to that which encourages us to grow, challenges us to become more aware.  If you have been disciplined this summer, give yourself a pat on the back… maybe schedule a facial or a massage in our Prana Room.  🙂

If you haven’t… dig out your mat, find a meditation cushion, get yourself in here for a class.  Breathe!   Move your body!  Find the quiet peace of meditation in our Shanti room, open during everyday if you need a quiet sancuary to sit and be.  Know it’s ok to start slow and work your way back in.  It just takes a single step.  A simple act.  An unrolling of the mat.

We hope to see you soon here at Karma Yoga Center!  Check out our schedule, give a call, or stop by. We’re bound to have something to feed your soul, get you moving, and allow growth to take you where you dream to be.  We have an incredible staff ready and waiting to help assist and advise you on how to achieve any goal you may have.

With much love and in much light,

Lisa Schlelein
