This is a special addition newsletter. We’re doing things a little bit different than usual for this lunar cycle. We replaced our monthly astrology video, Michael’s, astrological report and my mega long message with the short video that showcases the new studio we will be moving to in a very short time.

We have found a new home for the studio and it’s only five blocks west of our current location at 1760 S. Broadway. It has twice the square footage as our current location, which enables us to be able to increase our offerings, our classes, and expand our community.

We will need to do some build-out improvements in the new space. And the time clock is ticking, as we need to be out of our current location by March 1st. And we intend to open at the new space at that same time.

We have set up a GoFundMe page, as well as a Venmo and Zelle donation account. We are hoping we can collect enough money to make these improvements. We currently have raised 18k and our goal is 54k. We are so very grateful to the many of you who have contributed-every little bit helps.

I have broke down the estimates of our financial needs so that you are able to see where the money will go.

$7.5k is the cost of the new HVAC (the landlord has graciously agreed to cover the lionshare of the cost, which came in at $45k)

$25k is allocated for construction and electrical work with materials and labor

$10k for floor and window treatments (5000sq. feet of hardwoods need buffed and waxed and 8 giant 7×6 windows need shades)

$10k Ayurvedic Spa equipment, including a new state-of-the-art Shirodhora table

$5k for new signage (2 signs-one on the side and one on the front)

$3.5k for new community tables, classroom furniture

This totals $61k, and we are hoping to raise $54k-the remainder balance we will hopefully get as a SBA loan, and then we can keep our cash flow steady for our daily operations.

We realize this is a big ask of our community, friends and family. In our ideal world we would prefer to finance it all ourselves, but the truth is we need the help. The sudden need to move wasn’t in our budget. When the rent increased 33%, we needed to find a way to expand our business to meet that need. The best solution was to expand our physical size, and the Universe provided this new amazing space. “What you seek is also seeking you”-Rumi

One of the main aspects that makes Karma such a special studio is our community-called a sangha in Sanskrit. Friendships and connections that go beyond yoga have flourished from within the studio walls, retreats, and trainings.

I believe community is one of the most important ingredients we humans need in our lives. The world is heavily populated, yet isolation, loneliness and depression run rampant amongst us. Karma is a gathering place of like-minded people who are seeking a well-balanced life and connection.

Karma has also revered the spiritual aspects of yoga and held them as the heart of its foundation. There is a palpable energy of sacredness that hits you the minute you walk into the space.

It is our intention to not only maintain these qualities of sacredness and community, but deepen and further them at our new location. This new home will be a sanctuary to gather, grow, heal, learn and love. More room for yoga, for wellness, for spiritual awakening, and self-study called svadyaya.

We plan to have more communal offerings, like story-telling, open-mics, music, arts and crafts, book clubs, sacred geometry classes, high tea and haiku, tarot readings, lecture series, and so much more.

I haven’t even mentioned that it has a little kitchen that we hope to bring into use right away. But that is phase 2. First we need to build some walls and update the heating and cooling.

We will also have some sign ups for painting, moving, packing, schlepping plants very soon. Many of you have offered to help and we are so very appreciative. And if it is something you can help with financially, we are grateful for your in-kind donations. We have a donation page set up on the website, as well as some links you can use here in the newsletter.

Finally, we would like to invite you to a going-away party at the current studio on Saturday, January 24th. We will gather for a little ceremony and say a few words to honor the space and thank it for all the healing it has provided to the many of us over the last 11 years, and then we will have some snacks and beverages and music and fellowship. We will begin at 6:30 and go until 8:30. We hope you can come by for our ceremony or at least stop in for some cheer.

February we will start packing and mid month we start slowly taking things over. We hope to have a seamless transition from one place to the next. This isn’t our first rodeo. We had to move in a similar fashion 11 years ago-also in February-so we are kind of versed in the art of community moving. Three is a charm they say. I feel that to be true. Our new space is gorgeous and it will be even more special than we already have. I opened Karma 16 years ago with the intention to bring love and healing into the world, nothing has changed. I plan to do it for a long time more.

This is the year of the Fire Horse in the Chinese tradition. It is said to represent freedom and transformation. Well I guess I will say “Giddy up! Let’s Go!”
