Retreat Overview

Restore, relax and rejuvenate in the healing waters of Glenwood Hot Springs. “Yampah” is the Native Ute people’s name for the natural hot springs which means “Big Medicine.” This is a magical and healing journey that begins with a departure on Amtrak’s California Zephyr (The Polar Express) on the morning of Friday, Feb 2. Take a relaxing and scenic train ride over some of the most stunning and beautiful snow covered mountain passes in all of the Rocky Mountains. You’ll see soothing rolling vistas that can only be experienced from the train- which has a 360° windowed observation car. On the final part of the journey, you’ll pass through the mystical and awe inspiring Glenwood Canyon along the Colorado River, leading right to the foot of the Natural Hot Springs.

This Retreat is Imbolc Weekend and the gentle Snow Half Moon of February. We chose this time for the seasonal and lunar astrology to help connect with the Feminine and Yin energies of the Moon & Sun, The Midpoint of the Seasons, Healing Waters, and being nurtured in the womb of creation. Imbolc is the mid point between Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox and means “in the belly.” Its is when the little dormant seeds that lie in the belly of the Earth begin to turn and seek the light. You’ll be in the contemplative, peaceful, dark, yin, feminine womb of Glenwood Hot Springs on Imbolc, a perfect time to gestate and prepare for rental and rebirth of the Self.

Katrina and Michael will guide you through gentle yoga practices, inner world journeys, meditation, water medicine wisdom, and a Imbolc Intention Cermeony to connect with the Imbolc portal. We’ll  also guide you through some Soulful experiences to help you find your inner seed of Self and nurture it for the coming Spring Equinox. Spiritual, Soulful and Authentic.

You’ll have a beautiful balance of guided time with the retreat community and personal time to soak, explore nature, and the charming village-town of Glenwood Springs. You’ll be staying at the Glenwood Hot Springs Resort & Spa with Canyon/Mountain Views and Unlimited Soaking in the big medicine waters of Yampah natural hot springs. Along with your included Roundtrip Train Ride, you’ll receive two Breakfast meals, one welcome Dinner, Daily Yoga, Mediation, Soul Talks with Katrina and Michael and an Intention Ceremony on Imbolc. On Sunday, you will get back on the Polar Express and have a peaceful journey  back over the mountains and time to reintegrate your experiences.

There are 15 minerals found in the water of the World’s Largest Hot Springs Pool. Besides relieving aches and pains, soaking in hot highly concentrated mineral water has many other health and wellness benefits. Increasing your body temperature helps naturally eliminate toxins, increase circulation and reduce blood pressure. Essential minerals have many health benefits and can be absorbed through your skin, giving your body a natural health boost.

Before the water enters Glenwood Hot Springs’ two pools, it is cooled down to 104°F ( from 122°F) for the resort’s hot tub-like Therapy Pool and it’s cooled down even further to the bathwater-warm temperature of between 90° – 93°F (~33°C) for the gigantic main pool.

Soaking in or “taking the waters” is a time-honored healing tradition and one that is still recommended as a remedy for a variety of ailments. In fact, members of the nomadic Ute tribe were the earliest known people to soak in the healing hot springs which retains the original Ute language name “Yampah,” which translates to “Big Medicine.”
