Namaste!

Welcome to Karma Yoga Center!  I am Katrina Gustafson and I thank you for visiting our website.  Myself, and my two little boys Max(8) and Boden(6), opened our doors for business on May 22, 2010 and it has been a dream come true for me.  Ever since I took my first yoga class a decade ago I knew I wanted to teach yoga and share its amazing benefits with as many people as I could.  Now I can.

Karma literally means action in Sanskrit, the  ancient language of yogis.  But it is often loosely translated to mean “you reap what you sow”.  It is believed that our actions will come back to us.  It is also associated with selfless service.  To do karma yoga means to do a service without expecting anything in return; it is a selfless action.

Many people have asked me why I named the studio Karma.  I was inspired many years ago by a quote that was read to me from the Upanishads, an ancient yogic text.  This is hardly the exact reading, but  a loose translation:

Be mindful of your thoughts because
your thoughts become your words
and your words become your actions
and your actions become your character

and your character becomes your karma

This made me realize how simple and joyful our lives could be if we could just keep our thoughts positive.  The practice of yoga allows us to be very aware of what we have rolling around in our heads.  And, it gives us the ability to still our mind.  The more we practice being present, the more we can  control our thoughts.  We can choose to be positive, happy, friendly, joyful, or confident.  We can choose not to be angry, resentful, jealous, or fearful.

I opened Karma to provide a place for people of all walks of life to find their joy that is already within; to help everyone who enters feel hopeful about this beautiful world; to bring a sense of peace to our sometimes erratic life.  I humbly bow to you all, and earnestly desire to service this great community of Denver, and beyond.

Much thanks to all my teachers, my family, and my friends.  All of whom have helped me on my path.

Welcome and think good thoughts.

Respectfully,

Katrina Gustafson
