Class Descriptions

Beginner Flow (Mon 10:30am and 5:30pm, Wed 10:30, Fri at 10:30, Sat at 12)

Designed to help introduce you to the practice of yoga.  These classes will focus on the physical postures of yoga practice.  You will learn basic principles of alignment and movement through the postures (asanas) and begin to develop the lungs in order to begin to link the breath with the pose to create a continual flow of movement, a vinyasa. The emphasis of this class is on building and refining endurance. This class is suitable for those who are looking for a more gentle flow.

All levels Flow (includes Anusara, Alignment Flow, Bhakti, Sunrise, Yog-A-Go-Go, Energy Healing/Meditation Flow, Yoga for Athletes, and Hatha/Hatha Yoga Fusion yoga)

The majority of our  flow classes are geared for all levels of practioners.  Movement and breath are coordinated in efforts to bring awareness to the the present moment.  It is a meditation in motion.   The student will work on refining the standing poses and learning more advanced seated postures (asanas), back bends and introductions to inversions. Breathwork (pranayama) becomes more integrated and helps to intensify the flow. Although all levels are welcome to these classes, it is important to note that this is a vinyasa flow class, so the focus is on moving with the breath through the poses.  Modifications are always offered to the beginner and to the more advanced practioner during class so that each student can customize the class to their needs.  See below for individual descriptions of our all levels classes, and check the schedule for the times.  Try them all and you’re bound to find one (many!) that you just can’t live without.

Anusara: an alignment based class that includes backbending, arm balancing and inverting.  Usually incorporates partner work and focus on deep opening.

Alignment Flow: a vinyasa class that emphasizes alignment, whether physical, mental, or emotional.  When we align with the divine, we can open to who we really are.

Bhakti Flow: the yoga of love and devotion.  An all levels class that focuses on our devotion and love of the divine, in whatever form that may be.  Set to live music and includes chanting and ecstatic dance.

Sunrise: yoga for the early-bird.  A wonderful way to begin your day!  An all-levels flow that welcomes in the new day with movement, breath, and opening.

Yog-A-Go-Go: yoga inspired by music.  Each week features a different playlist to groove to as you move through your practice and find what stirs your soul.

Energy Healing/Meditation Flow: as asanas (postures) help clear out our physical bodies, energy helps cleanse our subtle body.  This class will help clear and cleanse both!

Yoga for Athletes:  designed to help stretch and open muscles used in any and all athletics.  Everyone knows stretching is essential to keep muscles loose and healthy in complement to athletics, but not everyone does it or knows how to get to tight muscles.  Often it’s not just one muscle that needs opening but multiple muscle groups.

Hatha:  the most traditional of phyiscal yoga practices.  Poses are done one at a time as opposed to Vinyasa which links the poses together. A slower more deliberate practice, not necessarily easier.  Hatha Yoga Fusion combines Hatha and Vinyasa.

Yoga 2/3 – Intermediate to Advanced (Tues 5:30pm, Thurs 6pm, and Sat  4pm)

Emphasis on taking the practice deeper through refining and defining the asanas. Includes studies of inversions: handstand, headstand and forearm stand; full arm balances; deep back bends; and might include a rigorous vinyasa flow. Advanced pranayama and meditation.

    Forrest Yoga (Mondays at noon)

Forrest Yoga, developed by Ana Forrest, is an intensely physical vinyasa-style practice that aims to heal psychic wounds by encouraging students to “go deep within”.  Forrest Yoga pays unique attention to abdominal work and breathing, with vigorous sequences of poses that are intended to build heat in order to sweat out toxins and release emotions stored in the body.  Students are encouraged to work honestly at their edges, yet respect their limits, as they develop effective tools to deal with fear, struggle, and breakthroughs.
As a beginner to Forrest Yoga, emphasis is on learning to breath deeply and connect in feeling with your body.  As you progress, you will become proficient at safely tailoring each pose to work best for you, particularly with physical and emotional injuries.

    Yoga for Seniors (Tues 10am)

For those 65 and up who are in need of a slower, more gentle class to open channels of energy and prana (breath) to keep the body healthy as it ages.   As we grow older and follow the natural cycle of life, the focus of our yoga practice shifts from a physical asana (posture) practice  to a more inward focus of breath and meditation, preparing us for the next part of our journey away from the physical body. This class will focus on breath, mental clarity, balance, light strength maintenance, and meditation.  Yoga really is for everyone!

Yoga Therapy (Tues at noon & Sun 11am)

Yoga therapy classes apply the science of yoga for treatment, management and prevention of disease in order to bring a person into the realm of optimal health.   It is inclusive to beginner through to advanced yoga practitioners.  The yoga therapy sequences offered in these classes provide a wide range of asanas (postures) designed to open the body, calm the mind and bring the individual who practices it into life more abundant, healthy, harmonious and free.  Consider participating in yoga therapy if you are interested in applying a yogic approach of healing toward common illnesses and diseases such as asthma, arthritis, anxiety, addiction, diabetes, depression, hypertension, obesity, neurological and psychiatric disorders.

Yin Yoga (Tues, Weds, & Thurs at noon)

The focus of Yin yoga is to complement the opposing force of Yang-the energy of movement, strength building and power.  Yin’s focus is to open to the more feminine and lunar qualities of peace, nurturance, and calm.  Postures are held for about 5 minutes, providing space and time for deep transformation and letting go.  You will leave feeling calmed, deep, and aware.

    Peaceful Yoga ( Sat 9:15am, Sun 8:30am)

Designed for those who prefer a class less vigorous than vinyasa. It includes 30 minutes of gentle stretches and breathing as well as simple movements designed to systematically increase the range of motion with every major joint and increase energy. This class is ideal for students with chronic symptoms such as muscle/joint pain, stiffness, weakness or fatigue. This is followed by a 20 min. meditation and a 10 min. savasana.

    Kundalini Yoga (Tues/Thurs 8am and Sun 8am)

Kundalini yoga, as taught by Yogi Bhajan, is called the yoga of awareness.  It is the yoga that helps you connect to the YOU in YOU.  Each of the ancient Kriyas, is a group of exercises designed to create a specific outcome which can range from increased prosperity to cleansing the liver! This powerful practice optimizes the nervous system and glandular system, and enables us to harness the energy of the mind to live harmoniously in the everyday polarities of life.  The class includes asana (postures), breath work, concentration, Mudras (hand postures), relaxation, meditation and Naad (sound current/chanting). This recipe of activities is an ancient technology in which the body, mind and soul are elevated to new levels of consciousness where one can experience the truth of who they are and oneness with ALL.

Kids Yoga (Thurs 4:15pm, Sat 10:30am)

This class has a set series of poses (asanas) designed for little people, including craft time, quiet time and a snack. The first 30 minutes are spent learning breathing and basic poses. This is followed by 20 creativity time. The class ends with 10 minutes of peaceful quiet time and a healthy snack. Always offered opposite an adult class.

Restorative Yoga/Flow to Restore (Mon 7:30pm, Thurs 7:30pm)

Begins with pranayama (breath work) and a gentle vinyasa flow,  focusing on flexibility and physical alignment.  Class then incorporates bolsters, blocks and blankets to restore the body to a state of harmony while creating peace of mind and a rejuvenated spirit.  All skill levels are welcome.

    Yoga Nidra (Tues 7:30pm)

Yoga Nidra means deep sleep or “yogic sleep”. It is a conscious deep sleep.  Different from sleeping or dreaming.   The student lies in a comfortable supine position while the teacher leads them into yoga nidra or deep sleep.  It brings about an incredible calmness, quietness and clarity. Yoga Nidra is one of the deepest of all meditations, leading awareness through many levels of mental process to a state of supreme stillness and insight.
